My name is Winnie Wamaitha, currently undergoing a two-year leadership training program with the Navigators in Mombasa, where I’m focused on reaching out to campus students. I first encountered the Navigators in 2018 during my first semester of college. Before I share how this encounter transformed my life, let me provide some background about myself.
I grew up in a devout Christian household with my father serving as a pastor. Church was a central part of my life, and I attended services regularly, even during the week. From a young age, I was taught about the importance of accepting Christ to avoid hell, so I would frequently dedicate my life to Him, fearing I had “backslid” if I made a mistake. However, despite my efforts to please God through obedience and good behavior, I struggled with feelings of pride and unworthiness when my family faced hardships and we lost everything.
Upon entering college, I found solace and love in the Navigator Bible studies, where I learned about salvation as a free gift from God, not earned through works. Through these studies, I grew in my love for God and His word, realizing that my previous beliefs were flawed. Convicted by scriptures like John 4:34-35 and Isaiah 61:1-3, I decided to take a leap of faith and join the Navigator’s leadership training program. Since then, I’ve witnessed God’s transformative power in the lives of students, including my own sister, as they come to understand their need for Him. These experiences affirm that God is actively working to reach those who are unreached and under-reached.
Now, as I continue my training, I am filled with boldness and zeal to share the message of salvation with others, knowing that it is through God’s grace alone that lives are changed.
