I came on training with the Navigators in January 2023. I had been asked to consider coming for the Short-Term Experience in Ministry (STEM) in July 2022. I was then on an internship in a church under the chaplaincy of my alma matter, Moi university that was to end in December 2022. The invitation came at a time when I was looking for a school and a course to be equipped more on ministry. This is because in the six months I had been part of the church’s programs and discipleship, I had found so much fulfillment in not only meeting with students for the various programs but also seeing how Christ t was gradually transforming their hearts.
How did I get here? I was converted while in high school. But it was in the university that I was taught how to walk with the Lord intentionally. I was also taught more about salvation. I knew that having Christ in my life had to influence my approach to life and the challenges that come with it. I saw people, especially close friends who did not know the Lord and I would occasionally pray for their salvation. Their lack of a relationship with Christ did not bother me much because they were generally nice people. In my final semester (March 2021), while having a conversation with a new friend, I had an opportunity to understand what Titus 2:11 meant for me. I remember weeping for not ever sharing the gospel with my friends and for thinking that I was better than them morally. I felt that I had wasted my chance to ever do that. As a result, God gave me a desire to go back to my university with the aim of especially engaging the first-year students. I desired to have the opportunity to not only share the Gospel but also to intentionally help them grow in the knowledge of what that meant. When the chance to go back was availed through the church internship, that is what I strived to do through the programs and with all the students I interacted with.
I joined training with an intention of being equipped to be more effective in my new found love (evangelism and discipleship). This has happened in so many ways already. I have grown in my walk with the Lord. I have now learnt that the end goal is not merely making disciples, but trusting God to raise people who will be able reach out to others.
As I continue to be trained, I am motivated by the transforming power of the gospel both in my life and in the lives of the people around me. I am excited to continue seeing the gloom that stems from the brokenness that sin brings turn to glory because of the Great Light that is Jesus and the reign He brings as described in Isaiah 9:1-7.
But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.[b]

2 [c] The people who walked in darkness
   have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
   on them has light shone.
3 You have multiplied the nation;
   you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you
   as with joy at the harvest,
   as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
4 For the yoke of his burden,
   and the staff for his shoulder,
   the rod of his oppressor,
   you have broken as on the day of Midian.
5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult
   and every garment rolled in blood
   will be burned as fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born,
   to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon[d] his shoulder,
   and his name shall be called[e]
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
   Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
   there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
   to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
   from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
