Did you know that Kenyan child population is estimated to be about 53% that is about 19 million out of 34 million with an annual growth rate of 2.2% teens and pre-teens? Coming to terms with the fact that majority of them have not fully grasped Who is Jesus. Their identity in light of what Jesus says is troubling.

I Grew up in a staunch Christian background, was made to dutifully attend Sunday school and other church events. Therefore, I knew God early in life. I knew God the father (note the use of ‘f’); I associated him with my earthly father; harsh, unfriendly, at times showing love, on many occasions his rays of care and concern came attached to deeds. In many ways it was conditional affection.

In high school I met a teacher who was kind, intentional, present and caring. Her way of life was clearly different. In my interactions with her I came to learn that she had an active walk with the Lord Jesus. Here I got to meet God the Son, the knowledge of God the Father was still blurry in my mind. Many questions on who God is still plagued me.

In a conference I attended the preacher commissioned us to go and witness of ‘what we had seen and heard’, challenging us from the great commission in Matthew 28:19-20. There it was, the big question, how do I witness the things I haven’t heard and seen in my heart?  I was deeply troubled, confused, been living unaware of who I was and who the Father was, who through faith in His Son Jesus Christ he is revealing himself to us. After deep introspection and asking for help to sense him moving in my heart, I felt an urge to confess and invite God to help me to encounter Him.

I remember nothing changed, until when I met the Navigators after I went back to school. A group of young men and women who clearly had a passion in knowing God. Zealous for the work of God! I Noticed how God was working in me into knowing who I was and who he is, through the consistent dwelling on scripture under guidance of these God-sent people.

It is 12 years now down the lane, and God has been gracious in helping me grow in Him, even in the midst of training. It’s a joy in completion on and in itself. It is amazing how my life in entirety took a shift that’s is grounded on the bedrock of His grace.

After campus I was invited to join the Navigators training program to be equipped on not just evangelizing but making disciples of Jesus Christ where the Lord will place me. I currently train and serve with the Navigators in Kakamega. My passion is to reach young people in Kakamega with the gospel.
