‘Workers of the kingdom next door to everywhere’ comes to mind when I think about how I came into contact with the Navigators! I met the Navigators on the streets in 199, when I met with one of my childhood friends who was on staff training with the Navigators Kenya, in a town called Machakos, where I had been posted to work with one of the Hire Purchase companies.
I was already a believer then, but I had not really been discipled. When he invited me to come see what he was doing, I was challenged by the question the host where they were meeting asked me after I gave an introduction of who I am that ended with “ …and I am born again!” to which he responded “good, I would like to hear more about what you mean by that!” I wasn’t expecting this at all, I thought he would just say “Amen!” This got me thinking because no one had ever asked me to really explain what I meant by this statement.
From there, a journey began in a small group and one-on-one settings that helped me to understand that I needed to grow in clearly expressing my faith with support from the scriptures.
1999 to 2002 I became part of a Navigators young adults group, we would meet weekly on Tuesday evenings for input then on Sundays we would meet a bunch of high school and precollege students to help them grow in the basics of ‘ wheel illustration’.
From 2003 to 2004 I served in the Navigators Kenya bookstore. I was fully engaged for three days in a week; on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I would work half day then go to a nearby campus, Jomo Kenyatta University, on the then Thika Highway to share the gospel among students and conduct bible studies in small groups.
Later on, I felt the needed to spend more time in ministry and thus responded to a call to take part on a 2 year Navigators Kenya Staff Training program- from 2004 to September 2006. After the training, I got married to Faith on 25th November 2006. The following year in September 2007, we moved to a neighbouring country, Tanzania, to get exposure as cross cultural missionaries working amongst students and the church community in a town called Morogoro, where we were till the end of 2012.
After this period, we relocated back to Kenya and joined the team involved the Navigators Church Discipleship Ministries. By God’s grace, we currently serve as the Team Leader, Church Discipleship Ministries-Navigators Kenya.
